Mad Insanity (MIR) consists of Mars and JRZ (pronounced "Jay-Rizz",) the latest edition to the world of "horrorcore" rap. Now in their last year of being teenagers, the pair met as kids in the Bay Area, home of such artists as Too $hort, Dre Dog and Ant Banks. When dabbling into the world of music the two right away beagin to stray away from the usual sounds of their homeland. "There isn't nothing like us out this way. Kids are looking for new shit that they can relate to." J RZ says. Most music of their genre had paid homage to Detroit rap recording artists like Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, Half Breed and Esham. Esham A. Smith founded what he called "Acid rap" in his early teens and has had a huge effect on the underground scene like this. "Horrorcore, to me was somthing they made up to give what we were doing a name." Esham explians in the August issue of Rap Pages. Which in a sense is the same outlook had by MIR. "Im not sure there is a suitable label for our music. Sure, you can call it horrorcore but some people might think its funny than it is scary." According to Mars, J RZ is the comedic relif and Mars is the scary asshole of the group.
"In school me and Mars were notorious. It got to a point in high school they couldnt give us a class together," says J RZ. "I still havent graduated yet. I fucked around so much in high school I got kicked out of every class exept for P.E. and lunch," Mars says. "If J RZ had a sub in one of his classes I would say I was whoever was absent and fuck with the class."
J RZ's brother is a producer began making beats for Rizz so that he could mess around on the 4-track machine in his room. At the same time Mars and a good freind of his were secretly doing some recording of their own.
"I didnt want to look stupid, I didn't know how people would react to it," Mars explains. "One day Rizz calls me up and says listen, and plays this tape of him rapping. He was talking about the same shit as I was and he sounded dope. Then I let him know I was doing the same shit too." From there J RZ released a single titled "The Arrival" produced by his brother G-Dubb of 2Sick Productions under the label J RZ created called "Mindless Ignorace Records". After selling every copy made of the independently released single, J RZ begain working on his EP called "Phuk Lyfe" to be released on his label now called "Mad Insanity Records, changed to avoid a similar label name of a underground artist from Georgia. From there J RZ was contacted by Bub Records to appear on their upcoming compilation "Music for the Suburban Bub". After handing in his song for the album it was immediatly discarded for its controversial title of "Rape Them Hoes". The Florida based label said they wouldn't be able to get the album reviewed by local papers or put in stores with such a title. Although J RZ handed in a more apropriate song for the release, he hasn't changed the content of his music which talks of drugs, murder, rape, and anything that's basically offensive. "Souled Out" his latest solo effort has received great reveiws despite even its offensive content. "I'm not saying I'm above laughing at anything, even rape. If it is funny, I'll laugh." says Jay Seagraves of Hip Hop Infinity one of the top hip-hop sites on the internet.
Mars had no such plans to be any different and planned to release his first album with the most offensive title he can think of that fits his lyrical content. His 14 track LP was titled "S.I.D.S" which stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Self proclaimed as "pedophile" or "The Belated Abortionist" he touched such topics as suicide, abortion, and domestic violence. "What can be more offensive then talking about killing a baby?" Mars asks. "If people are gonna judge my shit on what it is I might as well piss people off!" Soon afeter releasing S.I.D.S. he was schedualing to release a single for the albums track called "Mistreat" that stuck a nerve in his girfreind who has been in many physical confrontations with Mars. With a line in the chorus "I don't want ya if I cant punch ya," she had threatened to use it aganst him in court if it was released. At the time his under age girlfriend was pregnant with his daughter and Mars didnt want to gamble his chances of her being taken away so the single was dropped from the line up. By the time this album had been released, Mad Insanity Records had gained and lost many artists, including: Grimace, Big B, Castro, R-Cive, The Zodiak Killa, and The Unknown Artist.
Mars and J RZ decided to dump the remaining artists from Mad Insanity Records and form as one group, "Mad Insanity". On May 7, Mad Insanity and crew atteded a concert which was headlined by "Eminem". Eminem stopped the show after J RZ and Eminem exchanged words and jumped into the crowd swinging his fist twoards J RZ's direction. To say the least, Mad Insaity jumped Eminem and a near riot broke out in the venue which was held at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Eminem left the confrontation with cuts and bruses and Mad Insanity walked away with newspaper mentions and national radio coverage concerning the brawl. On another occasion Mars entered a televised "Battle of the Rappers" contest held at Underdog Records in his home town of Pittsburg. The rules were simple, no cussing. Mars did just that but managed to point out members of the audience and make insults and making the audence roar with laughter. Getting a perfect score of 30 from the juges the producer of the show banned his apperance on the show and gave the prise to the runner up. Not all was lost. Mad Insanity bagan sparking a local interest among the attending of the contest.
The group now plans a full lentgh release sometime in the new millenium, but not before releasing various samplers, singles and videos. Look for the pair in the year 2000 and prepare for the arrival of the MAD INSANES!
