First off I want to explain the name. Look at this site's URL. Notice something? Heh, good. It's RYDAS.Com. Well when I came across Gash's music a idea popped into my head. The idea was what would become Rydas Records. The name to me was a no brainer.
First off, I'm a big fan of older west coast shit. Death Row before everyone died or left, shit like that. The term Ryda has been associated with the rap scene, for a long ass time. It's a term just like Baller, G, Mack, Pimp, etc...
Secondly, our first artist (to me at least) has kind of a Ryda feel. Gash isn't really horrorcore, he's got a hip-hop vibe going on.
Finally, the name tied into my site, and I thought Rydas Records has a nice ring to it.
By the way, the spelling does not associate us with any particular rap group or label, nor does it infer we are imitating anyone. Listen to several of our artists and you will see that you can't say all of them are doing anything. You go from Hip-hop to horrorcore to punk. Also, the spelling was a simple matter. I could have tried to change the spelling to keep people from drawing comparisons to certain groups, but out of the myriad of spellings for the term I liked the idea of owning the domain for the term. Besides with the amount of spellings available (Ryda, Ridah, Ryder, Rider, Rydir, Rida, you get the point...) a attempt at trying to find the "best" spelling would have fried my allready fucked up brain.
Enough ranting about the name, on to the acts.
Our very first act was Gash (I will omit any artists no longer with RR, or that were never officially on RR, I could name former acts or people that wanted to be on RR, but this isn't a gossip column), then ILLneZZ, follwed by Dr. Gigglez, ONH Rydas, McNastee, Worm Quartet and Doozer (J-Scrub and Headless Ryda are not on officially as solo artists as of yet).
Gash is from Flint, Michigan, and currently does shows in the area. From time to time you see us posting about his shows. He has one LP out allready, and another coming up. The only term I can really find to describe his music is just straight up hip-hop. You can check out his site a:Rydas.Com/Gash. You can check out his MP3.Com site at Gash@MP3.Com.
ILLneZZ is some down south shit. Most people love them or hate them. And that's the type of shit they make. It doesn't really sound like anything else out there, but some people love it, while others just don't. Definately not for everyone, but might just be your type of shit. I would describe their style as down south horrorcore. They are probably best known for their collabs with various artists (Dr. Gigglez, J-Scrub, Wicked Dub, Dr. Forensikks, Mr NsizioN, Kemickal and Avalia). You can check out there MP3 page here:ILLneZZ@MP3.Com.
Dr. Gigglez is straight up wicked. If you like sick shit you probably like his stuff. Kid doesn't know were to draw the line. Not for everyone once again (heh, if you are easily offended), but tight ass raps and demented lyrics make him a up and comer in the horrorcore scene.
You might have heard about us talking about the show he did with the Wolfpac (with more to come), you might have found out about him as a finalist in the Mike Clark rap contest, or noticed him topping the MP3 horrorcore charts. Either way, this mother fucker is getting around and cementing his position as a strong horrorcore artist. His debut LP "The Doctor is In" is available now.
You can check out his site at:Dr. Gigglez.Com. His MP3 site is at:Dr. Gigglez@MP3.Com.
ONH Rydas got skills. That is immediately apparent by their victory in the Mike Clark rap contest. I mean, 60 somethin' rappers enter, one wins. You gotta admit those mother fuckers have some kind of skills. They have kind of a horrorcore/rydin' style. Unfortunately they don't put out as much material as I would like, but hopefully they will get off their ass and get some shit done (I even have a collab lined up with a fairly well known horrorcore act).
You can check out their MP3.Com site (once again they need to get off their ass and update it) at:ONH Rydas@MP3.Com .
McNastee is most definately our most diversely talented artist. He runs his own site(no, not just a dedication to himself), pimps graphic design like what(you'll find his art in the Blaze booklet among other places), and most certinaly owns the mic. I can't really describe his style other than to say he does what he wants (see my mention of Doozers below). As far as raps... I think he's what Vanilla Ice wishes he could be. VI's new style (heh, as a matter of fact VI's new shit has a exact line from a McNastee song, isn't that a odd coincidence?) is like a poor imitation (I know VI ain't trying to be McNastee for christs sake, I'm just saying McNastee did what VI does now before VI did it except better ...and McNastee never did that whole Ice Ice baby thing...fuck I'm confusing myself, enough about VI). Yet another Mike Clark rap finalist (yes Rydas Records some how ended up with 3 of the 4 finalists, 2 after the fact), he's one of Rydas Records most original artists. He has one LP out, with another on the way.
Anyways instead of taking up more space in this allready long as hell post you can check out his site:McNastee.Com and his MP3 site McNastee @ MP3.Com .
Worm Quartet is probably our best known act. Why do I say this? Well... because of the simple fact he was on the Dr. Demento Funny 5 (that and the fact he has had over ten thousand plays on his MP3 site). That's his like top te...err top 5. In case you don't know who Dr. Demento is, he has a national radio show that has had a cult following for years. He discovered Weird Al among others. Anyway I used to stay up late (years ago) to listen to his show. Nuff' bout him though.
Worm Quartet (otherwise known as Shoebox...AKA. Vanilla Ice Stole My Gum) has a brand new CD coming out, and more shows in the Syracuse area comings up.
His style is umm... punk/synthcore umm he's fucking funny as hell. If you want pop huge studio productions don't bother with Worm Quartet. If you want witty off beat funny ass hell shit then this is your typa shit.
Their(ok really his) site is at:WormQuartet.Com . His MP3.Com site is at Worm Quartet @ MP3.Com .
Ahh, I am almost done typing. Our final act (I won't bother with J-Scrub and Headless right now) is Doozers. They are the second act in what may or may not become RR Krome (a punk/metal/techno offshoot of Rydas Records, but with two acts why bother?). Also they are fronted by none other than McNastee.
They are punk. Pretty much straight up punk. If you like punk you might like them. They have a CD coming out soon also. Heh, I want to get done with this hideously long post so umm here is their MP3 page: Doozers @ MP3.Com.
A couple side notes. Look for a punk collab put out jointly by Flaming Mayo(Shoebox's label) and Rydas Records. Also, if you took time to listen to all our acts I think you will at least be able to tell that we have merit. No, we aren't some huge giant ass label (although we have live shows, pressed CDs and merch, so our fans don't really miss out on anything except crappy music videos), we are pretty much people having each other's backs. Having said that, I am a personal fan of most of the Rydas Records (heh, I should be I picked most of them) and I would rather stock my shelves with their shit than most of the other shit I hear on the radio. I personally think Rydas Records is a breath of fresh air in the music world. A group of people doing what they love. And no one's getting rich, hell Rydas Records is non profit (Rydas Records [myself, any non artist] makes no money. The artists get all the proceeds, which of course goes to covers costs of production).
Ok, I'm done harping about Rydas Records. - KrÅzY †³
