Born Herman Webster Mudgett, Dr. Holmes was an odd medical student, stealing corpses from the University of Michigan. He used the bodies to cash in on insurance money from policies taken out under false names.He moved to Chicago, started a drugstore empire and made a fortune. He built a hundred-room mansion complete with gas chambers, trap doors, acid vats, lime pits, fake walls and secret passages. During the 1893 World's Fair he rented rooms out in his house of horrors. He then killed his tenants and continued his insurance scam. He also attracted bitches to his death house with talk of marriage. Instead, he would force them to sign over all their money and throw them down an elevator shaft and gas them to death! HAHAHA!!!! In the basement of the castle he dismembered and skinned his prey and experimented with their corpses...
When police grew suspicious about H.H's activities, he unfortunatly torched the house and fled. In the remains of the glorious house, authorities found the remains of over two hundred people! H.H. was caught when one of his insurance schemes was unravelled by detectives. He was hanged in May of 1896. Herman was the first American serial killer. He was also the first celebrity psycho. He left behind an impressive death count that stood was unmatched for well over seventy years!!
